STC is a high-tech Engineering & Construction Company that offers Plants, Equipment, Technical Solutions and Services in the field of batteries recycling and lead production as well as in other sectors such as hydrometallurgy chemistry, electrochemistry, environment protection and water treatment.
The Company was founded in 2001 by a group of young engineers directed by Prof. Renato Guerriero, a leading light in chemistry, physics, innovative materials and metallurgy of non-ferrous metal, and intellectual owner of more than 100 patents, who unfortunately passed away last year.
During the first years of activity STC mainly focused on R&D and Consulting Services for industrial innovation and development, and over the time it has developed a wide range of advanced technologies: nowadays it is the owner of 50 pilots and 20 industrial processes, most of which are protected by National and European Patents.
Among the others, the following are noteworthy: lead oxide regeneration process, gas purification process from hydrogen sulphide, hydrometallurgical production of lead hydrate or monoxide of high purity from lead sulphates, monoxides and/or other compounds and desulphurization reaction by means of amino compound with production of Ammonium Sulphate as by product.
A few months ago, the 66,66% of the Company was acquired by the Bulgarian Group Monbat AD, one of the leading European batteries' producers with diversified activities in the field of Lead Acid Batteries
Production, Lead Recycling and Lithium-ion High-Power Systems with the aim to expand its portfolio of processing used batteries in Western Europe, in accordance with the Group’s strategy.
Present in over 65 Nations with more than 20 different technological applications, and a production capacity of 65.000 tons per year of Refined Lead as well as Polypropylene granules spread in 4 different European Countries, Monbat AD, through a vertical integration and geographical diversification, is a fast dynamically developing group, focused on the sustainable development of business, environment, human capital, good ideas and smart people.
The acquisition of STC will broaden Monbat’s recycling expertise and solution implementation and will open innovative horizons for Monbat and wider opportunities for a sustainable future.
According to Mr. Alberto Bergamaschini, Commercial and Marketing Director of STC, “ the goals of the Company are ambitious and through the win-win synergies between STC and our strong partner Monbat , we will be able to apply innovative processes in new and existing lead recycling plants thus contributing to the increase of the environmental sustainability of the lead and lead battery industry. STC has developed strong capabilities and offers to its Customers innovative but proven solutions, ranging from single equipment up to turn-key plants for the recycling of lead acid batteries with lead production and recovery of other materials like Polypropylene, ABS, Electrolyte etc.
STC is also focused in the optimization and improvement of existing Plants/Processes for the solution of specific problems of the Industry like electrolyte treatment through membrane and evaporation/concentration, high efficiency paste desulphurization with Urea, low energy crystallization systems, paste and fluxants pelletizing systems , plastic separation and polypropylene upgrading.
The final goal is to enhance the profitability and the performance of the installations, by enabling STC Customers to recover and resell most elements of the entire process, generate profit and reduce their operational costs”.
